Spinney Hill Vets
Whilst we are not registered with Spinney Hill vets ourselves, it’s somewhere I’ve visited a number of times with pets and their owners when we offered a pet transport service. Northampton residents all seem to have their own favourite veterinary practice but for those who live in this part of town, Spinney Hill vets is likely to be on your shortlist.
Spinney Hill Vets Opening Hours
For those who work full time a vet that is open past 5pm is often very welcome. In this regard most pet owners will probably be satisfied with the opening hours offered by this particular practice. Their quoted opening hours are as follows:
- Monday to Friday – 8:00am to 8:00pm
- Saturday 8:00am to 5:00pm
- Sunday Closed
This compares favourably with many local Northamptonshire vets. They state that for emergencies out of hours, pet care is provided by Vets Now. I’m assuming this will be the veterinary hospital in Moulton, premises that seem to be shared with Abington Park Vets surgery. It seems many local vets have an arrangement for out of hours cover with the same provider. When registering with a local vet it’s probably worth asking what the emergency cover is like and what additional fees apply before any care is even given. Our own vet is Vets 4 Pets at St James (currently in the process of moving) who are a 24 hour pet. It does give me peace of mind to know I’m registered with a 24 hour vet who are already in possession of my pets medical records.
Branch Locations
My personal experiences have all been with the Kettering Road branch but Spinney vets actually have 2 locations within Northamptonshire. The other is located in Wootton Fields NN4. I’ve also noticed that locals will refer to this vet in a couple of different ways. Some call it simply Spinney vets, others like me use the term Spinney Hill vets and others refer to it as Spinney Lodge.
The Kettering Rd branch is actually classed as a veterinary hospital since they perform a number of surgeries on the premises. According to their own website they claim to be the longest established Veterinary hospital in Northamptonshire. They are accredited by the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons). I notice that they are also a Silver Accredited Cat Friendly Clinic. I can’t say I know exactly what this entails but they do have a separate waiting area for cat owners and a number of their processes seem to take account for the particular needs of cats which can often be more stressed about a visit to the vets than other pet species.
Having existed for over 45 years and with full surgical facilities, this vet offers a pretty comprehensive range of services on the premises. These include:
- Digital Radiography
- Ultrasound Diagnosis
- Orthopaedic Surgery
- Endoscopy
- Vaccinations
- Neutering
- Dentistry
- Blood testing
- Microchipping
Having a decent range of services on the premises often means getting results quicker which in turn mean an earlier start to treatment, depending on condition. Another aspect I like about Spinney Hill vets is that they have their own customer parking at the rear. It’s actually not a very big car park but I’ve always been able to find a space whenever I’ve visited, which hasn’t always been the case at Abington Park vets for example.
Spinney Hill Vets – Managing Pet Health Costs
Pet health care is often expensive and large bills can often come at the worst time. It makes sense to consider pet insurance to help cover for unforeseen issues. If you can’t find a policy that is suitable for your particular needs it can often make sense to start a savings account fund for your pet where you put aside an amount each month that you would have otherwise used to buy pet insurance.
One product Spinney Hill vets has is their Pet Health For Life product. Prices start from £12.50 which gives comprehensive care for your pet. It’s not clear exactly what sorts of treatments would be included or indeed if conditions are fully covered or partly covered. Since prices start at £12.50 I assume the actual monthly cost may well depend on your pet’s age or indeed perhaps even dog breed may play a factor in cost. It’s certainly worth asking for further information though as some pet owners like such plans where they can budget for pet health costs better.
Summary
Having spoken to a number of local pet owners, many seem to be happy with the service provided by Spinney Hill vets. We all have our own set of criteria and definitions of what makes a good vet so feel free to leave a comment with your experiences with Spinney Hill vets, or indeed leave a mention for your favourite Northampton vet and we may feature them in a future article.
